What an online phlebotomy course can and cannot teach you.

What online study covers

The theory can be studied online: anatomy, tube types and order of draw, infection prevention, consent, labelling and handling complications.

What it cannot cover

Venepuncture is a practical skill. Employers expect supervised practice on real patients and an assessment of your competence, which an online-only course cannot provide. Some providers combine online theory with in-person practical sessions.

Before you enrol

Check what the certificate is for. A certificate of completion for a theory course is not the same as a regulated qualification.
